Video: Atlantic Erie aground and holed off Port Colborne

Atlantic Erie, a bulk carrier, has stuck about one nautical mile south of Port Colborne, in Lake Erie.

The incident happened on June 12 at around 10 AM local time. The vessel was en route to the Port Colborne Piers when it altered its course for unknown reason. It went off the channel and ran aground. The tugboat Seahound has been dispatched to the scene.

According to preliminary reports, the depth of the water in the grounding area is 15 – 20 feet. The bulk carrier has a hole in its fore section and has reported water ingress.

Atlantic Erie (IMO number 8016639 and MMSI 316204000) was built in 1985 and was registered in Canada. The DWT 38960-ton vessel is managed by Canadian Steamship Lines (CSL) International INC.
