Cargo ship detained in Germany after master found drunk

MS Komet III was detained in Germany after its captain was found drunk by the water police in Brunsbuttel.

The authorities found the drunk master on June 15 when the vessel had to dock in Brunsbuttel inland port while en route from Creeksea (Great Britain) to St. Petersburg. The breath alcohol test of the captain showed 1.26 ‰, blood samples also were taken. The ship was detained in the port until the 51-year-old captain got sober. He was fined and will face further charges.

Komet III (IMO number 8919831 and MMSI 305312000) was built in 1990 and is registerd in Antigua & Barbuda. The DWT 4,752-ton cargo vessel is managed by Planer Schiffahrtsgesellschaft (Germany-based).
