Ana, a Tuvalu-flagged general cargo vessel, capsized and sank being hit by typhoon Matmo yesterday.
On July 7, the vessel was sailing towards Singapore, departed Zhoushan, when it suffered a mechanical problem north of Taiwan Strait in East China Sea. That resulted in disabling of Ana in heavy seas. A Chinese boat was dispatched to assist the vessel. Having been towed, Ana managed to anchor safely off Lianjiang on the next day. All 17-man crew was unharmed.
On July 23 the vessel was hit by typhoon Matmo passage. The crew requested assistance after their anchor dragged and Ana drifted to the nearby rocks. The crew was airlifted by helicopters and all were said to be safe.
Ana (IMO number 7432953 and MMSI 572586000) is a general cargo vessel built in 1982. The 160-meter vessel has a deadweight of 14,395 DWT.
