Three seafarers from the 47-man crew on board Abou Karim III jumped over board the vessel and managed to reach shore unharmed.
The incident happened yesterday morning in the Oere Sound and according to Lars Blohm, assistant incident commander with the MRCC (Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre), the cause was a fight.
" It had apparently been fighting over table and the three of them decide to jump overboard," he said.
Two of the sailors reached the Danish side (Elsinore). They were reported to be Syrian and were quickly found. The third person was reported to have reached Helsingborg (Sweden) wearing a lifejacket, but the police is still looking for him. His nationality has not yet been revealed.
"We are still looking for him in Helsingborg. We have a patrol down the center. We have not received any tips for it. Hopefully we'll get a hold of him," said Patric Fors, spokeman from the Helsingborg police.
Abou Karim III (IMO number 8003060 and MMSI 450540000) is a live stock carrier which during the incident was carrying cattle. The 112-meter vessel is registered in Lebanon.
