German propulsion expert SCHOTTEL has been selected to supply main and auxiliary systems for an 8,000 cubic meter LNG bunker ship. The vessel is currently under construction at China's Nantong CIMC Sinopacific Offshore & Engineering shipyard and is the first LNG bunker vessel commissioned by Italian shipping group Fratelli Cosulich. Upon completion in summer 2023, the 5,300 dwt vessel is expected to serve Mediterranean customers.
Andrea Cosulich, President of Fratelli Cosulich LNG: “The expansion of the LNG infrastructure is a key area for us and we are very pleased that SCHOTTEL is supporting us in this project by supplying highly efficient propulsion systems. We firmly believe that the company's experience and expertise will enable safe, reliable and optimized ship operations."
The main drive of the LNG bunker ship consists of two diesel-powered SCHOTTEL EcoPellers type SRE 360 with a propeller diameter of 2.3 meters. In addition, two SCHOTTEL TransverseThruster type STT 1 CP will be installed to ensure maximum maneuverability in port areas. With this propulsion configuration, the 113 meter long and 20 meter wide ship will reach a free passage speed of 13 knots.
Highly efficient, sustainable, versatile
Thanks to the particularly effective combination of powerful propeller thrust and course-stabilizing fin, the SCHOTTEL EcoPeller meets all the requirements of a modern high-performance propulsion system. Thanks to the hydrodynamically optimized design, the EcoPeller generates maximum steering forces and enables top values in terms of overall efficiency and course stability. This reduces fuel consumption and ensures lower operating costs and lower emissions.
