US checking cyber attacks on gas pipelines

A threat of cyber attacks has been targeting US natural gas pipeline managers, officials announced 2 days ago, raising security concerns about risks in key infrastructure.
The Department of Homeland Security "has been working since March 2012 with crucial base owners and operators in the oil and natural gas sphere to address a series of cyber attacks targeting natural gas pipeline companies," DHS spokesman Peter Boogaard announced in an email to AFP.
He informed that the attack "involves sophisticated spear-phishing activities targeting personnel within the private companies" and said more that the FBI and other federal agencies are helping in the probe.
Spear-phishing is a way trying to target a specific firm or organization by sending fabricated emails made to get employees to divulge passwords or other security info.
