Video: Sirius on fire in the Netherlands

By Accidents

Sirius, a 32-meter fishing vessel, has caught fire while being berthed in Port of Stellendam in the Netherlands.

According to local authorities, the fire started in the night when there was no one on board the vessel. Initial investigation states that most likely the fire was caused by an electrical short in the wheelhouse. It engulfed the superstructure quickly.

To the scene were dispatched teams from the local and Goedereede fire brigades. They were assisted by the KNRM (The Royal Netherlands Sea Rescue Institution) and the fire was eventually brought under control a few hours later. Having got his mooring lines burnt, the trawler had to be towed back and moored to the quay. There were no reports of injuries.

Sirius (IMO number 5330163 and MMSI 246219000) was built in 1927 and is registered in the Netherlands.
