A new grade of ecological marine fuel has been developed by the oil company Lukoil Bunker for application in the zones subject to restrictions on negative emissions from seagoing vessels. The ecological fuel meets the new requirements on maximum 0.1% sulfur content which enters into force from January next year.
The tests of the new fuel continued two years and were held in collaboration with Scorpio Ship Management S.A.M. The fuel was tested for the first time on Baltic Merchant (IMO number 9314806 and MMSI 212227000) in October 2012. Tests showed the fuel is suitable for use in low-speed main engines (6S 50MC-C, 9480 kW B & W Hyundai) and medium-speed auxiliary diesel engines (HIMSEN Hyundai H21 / 32, 767 kW). Positive results were given also by St Peter Line (ferry company) and Atlantic Ro-Ro Carriers Inc.
Lukoil Bunker is a subsidiary of LUKOIL, the largest oil company in Russia. It major activities are supply of marine fuel at sea and river ports of the Russian Federation and Bulgaria.
