The reefer Green Freezer has run aground on the rocks in eastern Iceland. The incident occurred yesterday at about 8 p.m. (local time) in Faskrudsfjordur.
The refrigerated cargo ship was en route from Eskifjordur to Faskrudsfjordur with 17-man crew onboard. There were no reports of injuries or pollution released. The Icelandic Coast Guard dispatched a helicopter and two SAR vessels to the scene – Hafdis Su and Hafbjorg.
The cause of the grounding is unknown. Currently the vessel is still aground turned with its port side to the beach.
Green Freezer (IMO number 8819304 and MMSI 311009600) was built in 1991. The 109-metre vessel is registered in the Bahamas. Owner of the refrigerated cargo ship is Green Management (Gdynia, Poland).
