Video: Yusuf Cepnioglu freed

By Accidents

The local authorities in Mykonos have completed the operation of refloating the Turkish-flagged ship Yusuf Cepnioglu.

The cargo vessel ran aground on March 4 on the rocky coast of the Greek island while en route from Tunisia to Izmir with 14 members and 204 containers onboard. All crew members were rescued.

The 6-month salvage operation started by separating the vessel into three parts because it was impossible to tow the whole vessel. The last part of the Yusuf Cepnioglu was freed on Tuesday with no signs of serious pollution in the area.

Yusuf Cepnioglu (IMO number 9119646 and MMSI 271041411) was built in 1995. The 116-meter vessel had a capacity for 547 TEUs.
