Bulk Carrier allides with a canal bank in Canada

The 222-meter self-discharging bulk carrier Algoma Navigator has contacted a canal bank in Port Robinson, (Ontario).

The incident occurred on Friday, September 26. The laker was sailing south in dense fog when it struck the Welland Canal (connecting Lake Ontario and Lake Erie) bank. There were no reports of injuries or pollution. The incident resulted in some hull damage to the port side of Algoma Navigator which also caused some water ingress.

The vessel managed to reach Port Colborne where it docked for further assessment. An investigation into the incident has been launched by the authorities.

Algoma Navigator (IMO number 6707961 and MMSI 316001705) was built in 1967. The Canadian-flagged vessel has a deadweight of 31,769 DWT.
