Vietnamese Oil tanker disappears

The 100-metre Vietnamese oil tanker Sunrise 689 has disappeared with 18-man crew on board.

The vessel departed Singapore on October 2 and after 40 minutes, it vanished. The owner of the tanker, Haiphong Sea Product, said the vessel had 5,226 tonnes of oil products and it was en route to central Vietnam. On Sunday, the Sunrise 689 was due to arrive in Quang Tri province, but it didn't show up.

A search operation for the missing vessel has been launched by the Vietnamese authorities. The circumstances of disappearance are yet to be defined.

The director of the Maritime Search and Rescue Center 3, Pham Hien, said :

"We have informed relevant agencies and are contacting other vessels that operate on the same route for information about the missing vessel."

Sunrise 689 (IMO number 9624196 and MMSI 574001690) was built in 2012. The deadweight of the tanker is 5,929 DWT.
