A stunning time lapse video by the largest warship in the world, USS Nimitz (CVN-68), shows her transiting the Suez Canal.
The US Navy's super carrier is the lead ship of her class. She was built by Newport News Shipbuilding and cost $1bn. Initially launched and commissioned as CVAN-68, she was redisignated as part of the fleet realignment to CVN 68 on June 30, 1975.
USS Nimitz was named after Chester W. Nimitz, third fleet admiral of the US Navy. Her nickname is "Old Salt".
Currently, the home port of the world's largest warship is Naval Station Everett.
