Video: The largest of the Great Lakes freighters trapped in ice

Video posted on YouTube by Smithsonian Channel shows the Queen of the Lakes, Paul R. Tregurtha, meeting ice. 

The video was filmed while the vessel was en route to a generating plant in Michigan, laden with 55,000-tonne cargo of coal. The Queen of the Lakes breaks through a barricade of ice and passes a shallow passage with just two feet of water beneath her keel.

MV Paul R. Tregurtha (IMO number 7729057 and MMSI 366904940) is a self discharging bulk carrier built in 1981. The largest vessel operating on the Great Lakes complex has deadweight of 69,172 DWT and is 305m long. The Queen of the Lakes is often nicknamed also The Big Paul or Fancy De Lancey.
