Cargo vessel Kertu in danger of sinking as it ran aground off Sweden

The master and an engineer of Kertu are trying to save their vessel from sinking with the assistance of the Swedish Coast Guard (SCG).

Today, at around 5 UTC, the crew of Kertu reported that the vessel had run aground due to bad weather one mile east of Landsort island coast. The incident resulted in holes in the hull and fuel leakage from the tank of the vessel. The disabled Kertu started to take in water and the crew, except the master and an engineer, were evacuated several hours later.

Currently, the vessel is severely listing to port with the master, the engineer and Swedish Coast Guard personnel trying to pump out the water. To the scene have been dispatched several SCG vessels.   

Kertu (IMO number 9125683 and MMSI 229861000) was built in 1996. The 85-metre vessel is registered in Malta.
