Vietnamese authorities have been investigating an accident which took place on Sunday (Oct 26) off Da Nang. It was reported that a bulker had rammed a fishing boat and had run away from the scene. Five minutes later, the fishing boat sank.
According to the report of the sunken vessel's captain, on October 26 at around 12:30 pm local time, his vessel was anchored some 60 nm off Da Nang when a foreign vessel rammed into it. Following the accident, the foreign vessel fled the scene.
The crew of the fishing boat was rescued by a nearby boat right in time before it sank. There were no reports of injuries.
The crew members of the sunken Vietnamese vessel stated that the name of the bulker was Infinity with IMO number 8115215. It is believed that the vessel was en route from China to Singapore. This evening, the Liberian-flagged Infinity is scheduled to arrive in Singapore.
