By Vessels

A time-lapse video posted by Rumoaohepta7 shows four years of construction of the U.S. Navy's Newest Aircraft Carrier, USS Gerald R. Ford, in only three minutes – from the keel laying to the christening ceremony.

USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN-78) was named after the 38th President of the United States Gerald R. Ford. The super-carrier will be the lead ship of her class and is scheduled for commission in 2016 after the retirement of USS Enterprise.

The keel of the vessel was laid down on November 13, 2009 and she was christened four years later – on November 9, 2013. The cost of the USS Gerald R. Ford is approximately $12.8b and a further $4.7b having been spent on R&D (research and development).
