On Monday evening, January 23, 2023, the new Peter Pan (CruiseMapper) from TT-Line moored for the first time at the Skandinavienkai in Travemünde. The second green ship of the Lübeck ferry company thus completes the fleet of nine ships, all of which operate in the Baltic Sea. The first official departure towards Trelleborg is scheduled to start on the night of January 31, 2023, with Peter Pan starting its regular service for the shipping company.
The transfer voyage took a total of 53 days and offered sufficient opportunities to extensively test the ship's seaworthiness in wind and weather and to carry out further equipment work. The finishing touches took place in the past few days on the quay in the port of Travemünde.
As the most environmentally friendly ferries in the company's history, the TT-Line Green Ships stand for a comfortable ferry experience and sustainable travel in equal measure and offer sufficient space both above and below deck. With capacity for up to 800 passengers and more than 200 articulated lorries, trailers and containers, the new Peter Pan is the second ship of this size in the fleet. The sister ship Nils Holgersson went into service in April last year.
"On board our new ships we can offer our guests a modern and at the same time environmentally friendly ferry experience," says TT-Line COO Andreas Schaerli. "Identical in construction to her sister ship, the new Peter Pan also impresses with a well thought-out interior design. 245 modern and spacious cabins of different categories are available to passengers. Of course we have also thought of families who can stay in the family lounge or in the children's play area. Travelers with pets are also very welcome on board.”
The shipping company is not only pleased about the increased transport capacities associated with the commissioning, but also about the fact that the entire fleet is becoming more and more environmentally friendly.
“The environmental awareness at TT-Line is very pronounced. We have been working on improving our environmental balance sheet for years. We are therefore proud to have successfully integrated our two newbuilds, Nils Holgersson and Peter Pan, into the fleet within a year and thus significantly improve the emissions of our fleet,” explains Managing Director Bernhard J. Termühlen.
In addition to the possibility of being operated with LNG, the new Green Ships contain other future-oriented technologies, more than 90% of which come from European suppliers. The latest generation of ferries have energy-efficient air conditioning and heat recovery systems, which reduces energy consumption. LED light sources ensure up to 80% lower power consumption. A new type of program, which uses artificial intelligence, specifies the most efficient speed, taking into account, among other things, the weather, draught, water depth, bunker consumption and the expected time of arrival.
“It is our goal and our responsibility to serve the increased demand for transport as green, i.e. as environmentally friendly and energy-saving as possible. Our sustainable investments do not stop when Peter Pan is put into service, but go so far that we are also constantly improving the environmental balance of our existing fleet,” continues Termühlen.
The new Green Ship is the sixth ship in the company's history to bear the Peter Pan name. The previous Peter Pan now sails under the name "Tinker Bell" and will remain in the fleet. In 2018, the current Tinker Bell was extended by 30 meters, which means that emissions per transported freight unit can be reduced by up to 25% in daily use. Through extensive modernization measures, the shipping company ensures that the existing fleet is also as environmentally friendly as possible.
