The 64-metre ro-ro ferry Afjord has run aground onto the rocks at Finneset (Norway).
The incident happened yesterday in the evening while the vessel was en route from Oksfjord to Hasvik. None of the 15 people on board, 11 passengers and 4 crew, were injured but the vessel developed a list and there were reports of pollution released, according to the West Finnmark Police.
The local authorities immediately dispatched a tug, two lifeboats and a helicopter to the scene. The passengers were transferred safely ashore.
The salvage efforts were hampered by the fact that the vessel ran aground at high tide. The cause of the grounding is yet to be defined.
Afjord (IMO number 9218351 and MMSI 259679000) was built in 2000. The gross tonnage of the Norwegian-flagged ferry is 2,199-GT.
