A joint venture between Eimskip and Ernst Russ AG has acquired a second-hand vessel with a capacity of 1,025 TEUs. With this investment, the partners are expanding their successful portfolio of operated ships, which currently includes seven container vessels through the companies Elbfeeder and Feederstar.
The vessel, built in 2009, will be named Bakkafoss and is scheduled for delivery in the second quarter. It will be chartered to Eimskip and will serve the company's North American route.
With the addition of the Bakkafoss, Eimskip is further strengthening its Trans-Atlantic services with a larger vessel servicing this important trade lane.
Currently, Eimskip operates four vessels on the North America route, but the plan is to reduce the number of vessels by one while maintaining similar sailing system capacity with the larger vessel.
