On March 31st, IINO Kaiun Kaisha, Ltd. (IINO) received the delivery of their new LPG dual-fuel very large gas carrier (VLGC) named OCEANUS AURORA from Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co., Ltd. at Okpo Shipyard.
As a company, IINO's management philosophy prioritizes environmental care and sustainability, which they have included as a priority measure in their mid-term management plan "Be Unique and Innovative.: The Next Stage -Toward 2030-".
To achieve their goal of sustainability, they are investing in next-generation fuels that reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and the OCEANUS AURORA is their second vessel equipped with a dual-fuel LPG main engine.
The OCEANUS AURORA is not only environmentally friendly but also innovative as it is IINO's first VLGC that can load ammonia as cargo, which is a clean energy source that does not emit CO₂ when burned.
The use of LPG as fuel in addition to conventional fuel oil significantly reduces emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2), sulfur oxides (SOx), nitrogen oxides (NOx), and particulate matter (PM) compared to conventional fuel oil.
The vessel is also equipped with a shaft generator that uses the rotation of the main propeller shaft to generate power, which reduces total emissions. Moreover, the vessel is scheduled to be equipped with two 20-meter-high Rotor SailsTM, a wind propulsion system manufactured by Norsepower, around April-June 2024.
