An oil spill has been observed on the site where the ill-fated tanker Srikandi 515 was grounded last weekend off Narathiwat, Thailand.
Having been driven by heavy seas on the coastal rocks, it appeared that the vessel sustained a puncture on its stern.
Initially, there were no reports of pollution released.
So far, the attempts to salvage the vessel were hampered by the strong winds and waves in the area.
According to locals, the smell of engine oil in the area is strong.
They also fear that if the wreck is left unattended, the tanks might be breached causing the 2,500 tonnes cargo of palm oil to leak.
