Two sailors died and two more were wounded as a result of an attack against the Aegean Oil-owned tanker Araevo.

On Sunday, the Liberian-flagged vessel was docked in the port of Derna, Libya, when its front part was bombed by an unidentified fighter plane at around 1:30 pm local time.

At the time of the attack, the 28,610-DWT Araevo had 26 seafarers on board - 21 Filipinos, three Greek sailors and two from Romania. The vessel was laden with 12,600 tonnes petrol oil.

The Hellenic Coast Guard (HCG) confirmed one of the victims was a Greek sailor at the age of 29.

Although Araevo has sustained damage, there is no danger of sinking.

Araevo (IMO number 9009009 and MMSI 636014661) was built in 1991.
