Samsung Heavy Industries inked a 350.8 billion won ($260 million) order for the construction of a liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier for an Asian shipper.
The vessel is scheduled to be delivered to the company by September 2026, the Korean shipbuilder said in a regulatory filing on Tuesday.
Samsung Heavy has clinched a total of $6.6 billion in orders so far this year, which is 69 percent of the company's annual target of $9.5 billion in orders.
The orders obtained by Samsung Heavy comprise a range of environmentally friendly vessels, including a floating LNG gas (FLNG) facility, 16 methanol-fueled container vessels and seven LNG carriers.
“With Qatar slated to place large orders for LNG carriers later this year, we anticipate surpassing our annual target for orders for the second straight year,” a Samsung Heavy spokesperson said.
