MOL Express, a containership operated by Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL), has run aground in Tateyama Harbor (Chiba Prefecture). The ship was maneuvering to an anchoring area within the harbor when it got in shallow water yesterday at around 10:00 UTC, according to MOL press release.
MOL Express was scheduled for repairs on its main engines, the company added. The vessel was said to be in a stable condition. No-one was injured, no evidence of pollution was observed.
Currently MOL is working in a co-operation with the shipowner (an overseas company, an affiliate of Seaspan Corporation) to refloat the 282-metre containership.
MOL Express (IMO number 9251391 and MMSI 477904700) was built in 2003 and is registered in Hong Kong. The 4,600-TEU ship has a crew of 25 men.
