Maersk Etienne collides with Coral Opal

Maersk Etienne has collided with Coral Opal in the Irbe Strait. The accident occurred on January 18 at around 18:30 UTC.

According to the Latvian Naval Forces Rescue Coordination Center, both vessel were maneuvering dangerously which resulted in a collision near the Mikelbaka lighthouse. Both vessels sustained damages but continued towards their destinaions. There were no reports of injuries, no pollution was observed. 

Maersk Etienne (IMO number 9274642 and MMSI 219577000) was built in 2004 and is registered in Denmark. The tanker 187-metre was en route from Rouen to Riga.

Coral Opal (IMO number 9591973 and MMSI 373495000) was built in 2012 and is registered in Panama. The 221-metre bulk carrier was en route from Riga to Amsterdam.
