Major French shipping company CMA CGM has taken delivery of the new 13,000 TEU LNG (liquefied natural gas) dual-fuel container ship CMA CGM Belem.
As reported, the taking over ceremony for the new vessel took place on June 28, 2024 at the Hudong-Zhonghua Shipyard.
The vessel is the fifth of six new 13,000 TEU dual-fuel vessels that Hudong-Zhonghua is building for the French shipping giant.
CMA CGM Belem is 336 metres long, 51 metres wide and 26.8 metres deep, with a designed service speed of 21 knots and a maximum load capacity of 13,200 TEU.
The vessel is equipped with a LNG dual-fuel propulsion system and has a 14,000 cbm Mark III LNG cargo storage system.
In addition, the unit is equipped with the CMD-WinGD9X9DF-2.0 main engine, which is developed by China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation.
According to the Chinese shipbuilder, a next-generation intelligent exhaust gas recycling (iCER) control system on board the vessel will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 28% and methane emissions by 50%.
In addition, the container ship comes with a huge wind deflector at the bow, which can save 2% to 4% on fuel consumption during actual operation.
In addition, an energy-saving deflector is installed at the stern, which can improve the propeller propulsion efficiency, reduce energy consumption by about 1.5%, and reduce carbon dioxide emissions.
As a reminder, CMA CGM welcomed its fourth ship, the CMA CGM Sao Paulo, in May this year.
The CMA CGM Paraty was delivered in April this year, while the CMA CGM Bahia joined the shipping company’s fleet in December last year.
