St. Kitts and Nevis-flagged general cargo vessel Fort Azov sank in the Black Sea on Wednesday, one mile off the coast of the nearby town of Ayancik in the Turkish province of Sinop.
Video from the site:
The 3,261 DWT freighter, which was built back in 1970, was transporting a 3,000 ton shipment of wood en route from Varna, Bulgaria, when it developed a heavy list portside after the cargo had shifted due to severe stormy weather.
The Turkish Coast Guard managed to safely evacuate the captain of the vessel along with the eleven crewmen that were onboard, and then transported them to a local nearby hospital.
Salvage of the vessel is to be attempted when better weather conditions are present at hand.
Thus far there haven’t been any reports regarding pollution or injuries sustained by crew.
