Earlier than expected, MSC Oliver was officially inaugurated, as announced by MSC. The ceremony took place yesterday, March 30, at the DSME shipyard in Busan, South Korea.
Following the tradition, a bottle of sparkling wine was broken against the second of a total of twenty mega ships scheduled to be delivered by the end of 2015.
The Executive Chairman of MSC Cruises, Pierfrancesco Vago, who attended the event, said:
“MSC Oscar and MSC Oliver are ships in the same class – not only can they carry more containers but they are also greener and more fuel efficient than any other container ship we operate.”
He also explained that the next generation of MSC container vessels are named after the grandchildren Gianluigi Aponte, who is the founder of MSC.
“Our children carry the promise of this family’s future and these ships, the promise of MSC’s destiny,” said Mr. Vago
Later this week, MSC Oliver starts operating between Asia-Europe as part of the Albatross Service.
