Captain Vangelis L has run aground off Itaguai, Rio de Janeiro.

The incident occurred on Wednesday (August 19) morning in Sepetiba Bay anchorage area while the vessel was en route from Mundra, India. Having been caught in strong winds and storm, the capesize bulker drifted to the shallows.

Captain Vangelis L was refloated with high tide on the next morning. It was towed and anchored at safe position for underwater survey.

Initial reports show the vessel has not been damaged. There were no reports of injuries or pollution released.

Captain Vangelis L (IMO number 9450868 and MMSI 636013892) was built in 2009. The 169,044-DWT vessel is operated by Kyla Shipping Enterprise, Greece.
