Oslo-listed shipowner and dry bulk handysize transportation service provider Pioneer Marine Inc. has taken delivery of its first 38,464 dwt, Green Dolphin eco-design handysize dry bulk carrier, the M.V. Falcon Bay, from China’s Yangzhou Guoyu Shipbuilding.
According to Pioneer Marine, the ship’s fuel consumption is about 6 tonnes per day lower than the non-eco design vessels.

The Green Dolphin new building is equipped with a hull strengthened to Ice Class 1C, fully logs fitted, suitable for the carriage of various dangerous cargoes, grab fitted, ABB Octopus system for fuel consumption optimization, as well as mass flow meters on the bunker line.
The handysize dry bulk carrier Falcon Bay will commence a 1 year charter on a floating rate based on the Baltic Handy index plus a premium. There is also an option for the charterer to extend the contract for up to one additional year.
With the delivery of Falcon Bay, the company’s operating fleet is increased to thirteen handysize vessels and one handymax vessel, with additional 11 handysize newbuildings on order for delivery through 2016 and 2017. The handysize Green Dolphins new-buildings are designed by SDARI.
