Cruises to be Powered by Natural Gas

Egersund from Fjord Line AS international ferry comapny which is based in Norway, told in a statement that the organization's 2 new cruise vessels, currently under construction at Bergen Group Fosen, are going to be powered only by environmentally friendly liquefied natural gas (LNG) instead of heavy fuel oil.
Thereby the organizations says it is going to meet the upcoming regulations for sulphur content in fuels before they will enter into force in 2015. The ferry organization has chosen Rolls-Royce as the supplier of the LNG engines. Upon the delivery of the first vessel “Stavangerfjord”, which is scheduled for April 2013, the LNG-powered ferry is going to ply the daily route among the two Norwegian cities Bergen and Stavanger and Hirtshals in Denmark. Following a few months later, the second newbuilding will be connecting Hirtshals and Langesund, Norway.
