The Liberian-flagged crude oil tanker Almi Spirit was boarded by six pirates in the Strait of Singapore today, Admiral Datuk Ahmad Puzi Ab Kahar, the Director General of Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA), reported via Twitter.

The six men boarded the 2007-built tanker at around 7 a.m. local time in Indonesian waters, while the vessel was en route to Tanjung Pelepas, Malaysia.

The crew of the 105,571 dwt tanker raised the alarm following the boarding, after which the six attackers fled the ship. There have been no reported injuries to the crew, and Almi Spirit resumed the voyage to Tanjung Pelepas with its cargo intact.

MMEA will hold a press conference on the incident at 1:30 p.m. local time.

Almi Spirit is owned and operated by the Greek shipping company Almi Tankers S.A.
