At about 14:00 hrs on Sep 9, 2012 the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore obtained a report that a bulk carrier registered in Hong Kong, Sunny Horizon, crashed with the LPG carrier DL Salvia, registered in Korean, at the Temasek Fairway, about 700 metres east of Sultan Shoal. The bunker tank on DL Salvia was breached and less than sixty metric tonnes of bunker were spilled. The zone of the spill is concentrated within Temasek Fairway.
Upon notification, Maritime and Port Authority instantly dispatched its patrol craft to handle with the oil spill. Oil spill response firms were also activated to augment the patrol craft. A total of 7 patrol and anti-pollution boats have been deployed to clean up the spilled oil. Work is still continuing and MPA is co-ordinating the clean up with other government agencies and the vessel owners.
The 2 ships involved in the collision are now safely anchored in the West Jurong anchorage. MPA has issued navigational broadcasts to vessels to navigate with caution when in the vicinity of the accident site. There is no information of injury and port operations remain unaffected.
