93 people stranded in boating incident off Bar Harbor

The US Coast Guard is investigating why a ship that was carrying 93 cruise travelers ran aground Thursday night stranding the cruisers on a remote shoal off Bar Harbor.
Lt. Nick Barrow told the ship, known as a tender, was transporting travelers from Bar Harbor to the Celebrity Summit, which was anchored offshore.
The tender ran aground at 7:45 p.m. at low tide in shallow water among Bar Island and Porcupine Island. The crew members of a local whale watch vessel were able to rescue the cruisers and 2 crew members. There were reported no injuries.
Barrow told the cruise liner that is bound for Bayonne, N.J., arrived in Bar Harbor on Thursday morning.
