5 seamen Died after Coast Guard vessel capsized

A South Korean Coast Guard vessel capsized leaving 3 Filipino and 2 Chinese seafarers dead on 19th of October, 2012. The vessel capsized after saving the sailors from the sinking 436-tonne registered in Malaysia, Shinline freighter near the southern island of Jeju. The vessel, with a total of thirteen Chinese and 6 Philippine crewmembers, warned for help by the vessel's radio after the boat - en route to Singapore - started taking on water.
The vessel capsized while carrying fifteen crew members saved from the freighter. All the Coast Guard officers and ten of the freighter's crew members were saved unhurt by another South Korean Coast Guard ship involved in the operation, but 5 perished in the accident, the spokesman stated.
Jeju Coast Guard chief Cho Joon-Eo as saying: "The weather conditions were extremely bad and the freighter could have gone underwater at any moment. We hadn't other choice but we tried to rescue as many seafarers as we could."
