The Port of Rotterdam Authority has ordered a new inspection vessel: the RPA 8. It is equipped with hybrid propulsion. The main points of attention in the tender were the total costs over the entire lifecycle of the ship, the reduction of emissions and the reduction of waves caused by the ship.

The new vessel fits the policy of the Port Authority which strives for a sustainable port. The RPA 8 replaces the RPA 3. The RPA 3 has reached the end of its technical and economic lifetime. The expectation is that the RPA 8 will be taken into service in the course of 2017. Its construction takes place at the shipyard of the Kooiman Group in Zwijndrecht.

In addition to the RPA 8, a tender will soon be called for the adaptation of the incident control vessels RPA 10, 11, 12, 13 and 16.
