Transocean must Pay $1.4 Billion in Civil Penalties and Criminal Fines

Transocean Deepwater Inc. must pay $1.4 billion for breaking the Clean Water Act (CWA) because of the Deepwater Horizon disaster.
Transocean had to sign an agreement with the government for its criminal conduct. The company is obliged to cooperate in further investigation.
The biggest oil spill in the history of the United States of America took 11 lives and caused a natural disaster.
The rig Deepwater Horizon had a huge unstoppable blowout and big explosions and fire.
The company announced that its crew were negligent and did not react on time and that the Macondo was not safe and that oil and gas were flowing into the well.
The most of the money will be directed to the restoration of the nature in the area, oil spill prevention, response efforts in the Gulf, education, research etc.
