Azerbaijan has got an opportunity of direct tanker export of its oil from the Caspian Sea water area, known as a closed basin.
Rauf Veliyev, chairman of Azerbaijan Caspian Shipping Company (AXDG/ACSC), has stated that tanker Ganja put into operation today ensures such a possibility.
“Tanker Ganja is the first of two vessels of such type ordered within the alliance between ACSC and Caspian Marine Services (CMS). Its class (Volga-Don-Max) with carrying capacity of 7,000 and draught of 4.2 m allows it to pass through the internal waters of Russia – the Volga-Don and Volga-Baltic canals, and deliver hydrocarbons along open water to consumers,” Veliyev emphasized.
The tanker of this type is also able to work with the Iranian ports.
“Economically, it is of great importance for ACSC,” Veliyev underlined.
Two more tankers of the same type as Ganja are being fabricated at the Baku Shipyard.
