Tanker hijacked by pirates off Ivory Coast

By Piracy

The International Maritime Bureau informed that a French-owned oil tanker that went missing off the Ivory Coast 2 days ago is probably hijacked by pirates.
The owners of the ship(flag-Luxembourg) have lost connection with the vessel and all 17 crew members on board. There is information and all believe that the ship has been hijacked. Vessels nearby are warned.
The conclusion not only for this attack is that pirates are moving near the Ivory Coast. Nigeria and Benin increased patrols in the area. Last days there were 2 other attacks on merchant ships.
Early Monday a chemical tanker owned United Arab Emirates was under fire off the Nigerian port city of Lagos. The attack was canceled because of the presence of armed security. One crew member was injured and taken to hospital.
The Gulf including Nigerian waters is the area of the largest oil production in Africa. Pirate attacks increased in recent months, hijackings, kidnappings and killings.
