5 crew members died and 3 was hurt badly during during emergency drill on Thomson Majesty when their lifeboat fell from 60 ft (20 metres). There are many similar incidents with lifeboats. The reason for the tragedy is that a drop cable snapped. A passenger took a PHOTO showing the damaged cable which was probably corroded.
The cruise ship Thomson Majesty built 1992, 32, 396 GT is operated by the British-based Thomson holidays and owned by Cyprus based Louis Cruises.
Those killed are known to be 3 Indonesians, a Filipino and a Ghanaian. The other 3 injured people were in a hospital but now are back to the ship.
The ship will not continue its cruise until investigation is over.
