Alexey Miller, Chairman of Gazprom’s Management Committee, and Sergey Frank, President and CEO of SCF Group (Sovcomflot), held a working meeting during the recent XXI St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.
The parties discussed ongoing and prospective projects, as well as cooperation in the area of marine transportation, and the servicing of major oil & gas projects on the continental shelf.
In addition to the meeting, which was held at Sovcomflot’s headquarters in St. Petersburg, Sergey Frank took Alexey Miller on a tour of the simulator complex at the SCF Training Centre located at the Group’s headquarters. The Centre has state-of-the-art marine simulators, which cover the entire range of marine operations in the Arctic, including: navigation in northern latitudes; ice navigation, both independently and with icebreaker assistance; servicing of oil platforms; approaching ice-resistant berths and much more.
Sergey Frank updated Alexey Miller on the successful operation of SCF’s tankers serving the Prirazlomnoye (Pechora Sea) and Novy Port (Kara Sea) projects operated by Gazprom Neft.

Prirazlomnoye Project (Pechora Sea). The offshore ice-resistant fixed platform (OIRFP) Prirazlomnaya provides oil production, storage, and offloading. Recoverable oil reserves exceed 70 million tonnes. Commercial development started in December 2013. The project is operated by Gazpromneft Shelf. The project is serviced by two SCF 70,000-dwt Arc6 Arctic shuttle tankers, Mikhail Ulyanov and Kirill Lavrov. As of 1 May 2017, these vessels had completed 68 voyages and transported 4.6 million tonnes of oil.
Novy Port Project (Kara Sea). The Novy Port oil and gas condensate field is one of the largest in the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Region. Its commercial development began in 2016. The project is operated by Gazpromneft-Yamal. Oil from the Gulf of Ob is transported by three SCF 42,000-dwt Arctic shuttle tankers – Shturman Albanov, Shturman Malygin, and Shturman Ovtsyn. All the vessels are operated by Russian crews and are registered under the Russian flag, with St. Petersburg as their home port. The high ice class, Arc7, enables the vessels to operate independently in ice up to 1.8 metres thick. As of 1 May 2017, the SCF vessels had completed 60 voyages and transported 1.9 million tonnes of oil.
The SCF Training Centre in St. Petersburg, opened in 2012, serves as one of the core elements of the in-house crew training system established by SCF Group. The Centre specialises in training across the full range of marine operations in the Arctic. Internship at the Centre is mandatory for every SCF seafarer who goes on to work in the Barents, Pechora, and Kara Seas, which enables SCF crews to maintain an appropriately high level of navigational safety, in the adverse navigational and ice conditions of the Arctic sea basin. As of the end of 2016, nearly to 2,500 seafarers had completed training at the Centre. In 2015, the Centre successfully passed certification for compliance with the ISO 9001 international standard.
