MSC will not book backhaul Europe-Asia cargo, blames lack of capacity

The 2nd biggest container carrier Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC), based in Geneva, has announced the repeat of its denial to book Europe-Asia cargo until the 1st week of April, citing a lack of capacity.
“Those measures have been made in order to permit the cargo booked in time to obtain the best attention and required level of service particularly in view of the well-known and widely announced limited availability of free space and equipment during the coming weeks,” according to the statement of MSC.
It was a strategy which was used by the carrier a year ago to reduce supply to help back rates, commented London’s Containerisation International.
