Yang Ming’s 11,000-TEU ship is largest to call Husky Terminal
The Northwest Seaport Alliance welcomed YM Triumph, Yang Ming Marine Transport Corporation's newest 11,000 twenty-foot equivalent unit (TEU) vessel. The vessel, making its maiden voyage to a North American port, called at Husky Terminal in Tacoma on Aug. 27.
The arrival of YM Triumph also marks another major milestone for the NWSA. It is the largest vessel to call at Husky Terminal, which recently underwent a major pier reconfiguration.
Completed in April 2018, the $266 million project extended the terminal into the Blair Waterway to create a single 2,960-foot-long pier, allowing two ultra-large container vessels to dock simultaneously. Husky Terminal also features eight state-of-the-art, super-post-Panamax cranes with an outreach of 24 containers and a 165-foot lift height.
YM Triumph, along with its sister ship YM Truth, joined the PN2 string of THE Alliance’s trans-Pacific service in July 2020.
The PN2 service rotation, which provides direct connections from southeast Asia and fast transit time from southern China, consists of the following ports: Singapore – Laem Chabang – Cai Mep – Haiphong – Yantian – Tacoma (NWSA) – Vancouver, British Columbia – Tokyo – Kobe – Singapore.
At 1,090 feet long and 158 feet wide, the YM Triumph has a nominal capacity of 12,690 TEUs and is equipped with 1,000 plugs for refrigerated containers. The Taiwan-based carrier commissioned 14 vessels of this series to enhance its global fleet and service network, in addition to addressing environmental and safety regulations.
According to a 2019 study, NWSA marine cargo operations supported 58,400 jobs in Washington state and contributed nearly $12.4 billion in business output.
