The general cargo ship Jiang Xia Xiang capsized after collision with tanker BAI CHI in Yangtze river at 01:00 local time on July 23 in Wusong area, Shanghai, Yangtze river.

The Jiang Xia Xiang was loaded with 7,000 tonnes of stone on board and got large breach after the collision with the tanker BAI CHI, which was loaded with 30,000 tons of crude oil.

The general cargo vessel suffered breach or breaches portside with water ingress later capsized near the anchorage. All 16 crew members onboard were rescued and there was slight leak of fuel in the river.

The tanker BAI CHI suffered damages in the bow, but there is no report for water ingress or any serious breaches and fuel leaks.

The local authorities are monitoring the vessels and have already started an investigation for the cause of the incident.

The Jiang Xia Xiang is 4615-gt China-flagged general cargo ship. The vessel has an overall length of 111.00 m, moulded beam of 16.00 m and maximum draft of 7.00 m.

The BAI CHI is China-flagged 41,983-dwt tanker oil products tanker. The vessel has overall length of 188.00 m, moulded beam of 32.00 m and maximum draft of 10.00 m.

The ship was built in 2007 by Guangzhou International Shipyard and operated by China Shipping Development Tanker.
