On September 16th, Singapore’s Pacific International Lines (PIL) container line and the Chinese Yangzijiang Shipbuilding (Holdings) Ltd. shipbuilder managed to reach a contract for the building of eight container ships of 11,800 TEU.
The newbuildings will have a length of 314.5 meters, a width of 48.2 meters and a 13-meter draft.

They are going to be the biggest boxships in the fleet of PIL once they are delivered. The first vessel is to be delivered at some point during 2018.
The contract’s value was not disclosed by the two parties.
This is going to be the second time in Yangzijiang’s history to be tasked with the construction of five-digit TEU container carriers, following previous contracts with Seaspan for the manufacturing of 10,000 TEU boxships.
Yangzijiang has been responsible for delivering a total of 13 container carries in the 10,000 TEU range for Seaspan and four more are currently being constructed.
