Energy Duchess, the first of two platform supply vessels ordered by Norway’s Golden Energy Offshore, was launched on October 27 at the ROC yard in Nantong, China.
Energy Duchess and her sister vessel are scheduled for deliveries in 2016. The vessels are based on the PX121 design from Ulstein, and customised with one extra accommodation deck.
The PSVs have an overall length of 83.4 metres, a beam of 18 metres, and a deadweight (dwt) of 4,000 tonnes.
The vessels are equipped with DP2 dynamic positioning, as well as oil recovery and fire-fighting systems. They are recognized as medium-sized PSVs and have a cargo deck of approximately 850 square meters.
The PSVs can accommodate up to 30 persons, and are being built according to IMO’s SPS code for Special Purpose Ships.

In addition, the vessels will be prepared for the installation of an AHC Crane with up to 67 tonnes capacity and an ROV mezzanine deck, which means they can be configured for IMR (Inspection, Maintenance, Repair), ROV support, trenching and light subsea construction work.
At the announcement of the design contract in 2014, Per Ivar Fagervoll, CEO in Golden Energy Offshore, said:
“Golden Energy Offshore is a fully integrated ship owning company located in Ålesund, Norway, with all management functions in-house. We look forward to work through and complete this project together with the yard and Ulstein.”
“In addition to design, Ulstein also delivers a significant package including equipment, supervision, commissioning and testing, which has been instrumental and a condition for us to enter into this series of vessels. There is also another Norwegian equipment on-board including the accommodation interior package, delivered in accordance with Norwegian standards.”
