In early August, Teekay Tankers announced the acquisition of 12 Suezmax tankers from Principal Maritime. Totaling $662 million, the acquisition has increased Teekay Tankers’ (TNK) Suezmax fleet from 10 to 22 vessels. It also increased the fleet value to $1.7 billion and reduced its average age by 1.2 years.

Teekay Tankers welcomes 12 Suezmax vessels

The addition of these 12 high-quality ships only further reinforce Teekay’s desire to operate the best ships in the industry. This fleet expansion has also solidified Teekay Tankers’ position as the largest owner and operator of mid-sized tankers.

On October 15, 2015, the 12th and final Suezmax vessel, Sydney Spirit, was delivered into the Teekay Tankers fleet. The last of the vessels are now going through dry docking and are expected to operate in the spot tanker market in the near future.

The Suezmax vessels joining the fleet are the following: London Spirit, Atlanta Spirit, Moscow Spirit, Athens Spirit, Los Angeles Spirit, Barcelona Spirit, Beijing Spirit, Seoul Spirit, Rio Spirit, Tokyo SpiritMontreal Spirit and Sydney Spirit.
