In early April, the first shipment of steel from Jindal Steel Works was delivered directly in Rotterdam. A first, since so far, JSW only delivered via Antwerp.

India’s Jindal Steel Works starts steel deliveries in Rotterdam

JSW Steel Ltd is India's second-largest private steel company with a capacity of 18 million tonnes a year.

“The steel, which is loaded in Mumbai, was always delivered to our southern neighbours, even if it was intended for Dutch clients,” said Remco Bol, sales manager of Broekman Breakbulk terminals.

“Together with one of our clients, we were able to convince JSW of the benefits of direct delivery in Rotterdam. The volume has meanwhile reached the level to justify this. In early May, we expect the second shipment from India, and the third shipment is also scheduled to arrive at our steel terminal in Rotterdam.”

Due to this volume, the foundation has been laid for regular calls of ships of the Oldendorff shipping company at Broekman Distriport in the Botlek.

Bol: “This means that more Dutch customers could receive their shipments via Rotterdam in the future. The benefits of the steel no longer needing to be brought in from Belgium by truck are evident, both in terms of cost and sustainability.”
