Logistics service provider, Blue Water Shipping was recently tasked to transport stone crushers from a manufacturing plant in Sweden to a mine in South Australia. With the customers’ tight schedule, Höegh Autoliners was chosen to provide the ocean transportation due to its direct, frequent service between Gothenburg and Adelaide.
Frequent, reliable service to Australia
Höegh Autoliners currently offers four sailings a month on its Europe to Oceania service, including the newly added direct trade via the US and Mexico.
Anna Hägerstrand, Coordinator on the project at Blue Water Shipping Gothenburg says: “Due to a very tight timeframe, a detailed collection plan had to be thoroughly planned to avoid any waiting time and storage.”
With the stone crushers manufactured in Svedala and delivered to Gothenburg, Höegh Autoliners’ new service from Europe to the US and Oceania was the ideal fit for the customer’s tight deadline, ensuring minimal transit time in the port.
Low risk solution for breakbulk
Due to the sensitivity of the breakbulk cargo, Höegh Autoliners’ RoRo option meant that crushers would be transported on Höegh’s rolltrailers and rolled on board the vessel. This method reduces the risk of damage to the cargo as it eliminates the need for crane lifting in both load and discharge ports. This ensures a safer and more efficient operation overall. In addition, by stowing the breakbulk units under deck, they are safeguarded against weather and seawater.
The breakbulk units were loaded on board Höegh Yokohama in Gothenburg, ready for their sea voyage to Adelaide.
